In the Tarama Island, there was a hero named NUTABARU-TOYUME that had ruled the island in the 16th century. The meaning of TOYUME is a local head of ancient Miyako Islands. There are a lot of historic sites and legends that relate to NUTABARU-TOYUME in the Tarama Island. NUTABARU-TOYUME was called UDURU in his childhood. It is told that UDURU united villages of Tarama island as a result of the battles. NUTABARU-TOYUME participated in famous wars of the 16th century. One was a war that subjugated OYAKE-AKAHACHI. The other one was a war that conquered ONITORA. NUTABARU-TOYUME played a major role in these two wars. King SYOSHIN ordered the government of Tarama Island to NUTABARU-TOYUME. NUTABARU-TOYUME did a lot of work with Tarama Island.
